2020 Pray for New Zealand

Introduction: On January 9 2020 I begin my commitment to Pray for New Zealand for one hour a week throughout 2020. It has taken me a while to reach this point … onward and upward!

Vision: Every church and member of the Christian community in New Zealand have at least one small prayer group committed to praying every week for twelve months for New Zealand.

Aim: Cover New Zealand in prayer

Method: Small groups of 2 or more meet for one hour every week to pray for the nation – for God’s will to be done. A loose framework to guide this prayer time could include the following, though people are encouraged to pray as God leads:

P – pray for all leaders – political, social, economic and educational.

R – pray for reconciliation of churches, people, groups, the nation – an expression of hope for the revitalization of the church.

A – pray for an Awakening during which Christians renew their commitment to God, strengthen their relationship with Jesus and seek to do His work; pray for spiritual renewal individually and throughout New Zealand.

Y – pray for the anointing of our youth and all who are responsible for their upbringing. Pray that God will turn the hearts of the young towards the old and vice versa.

Bible verses to encourage:

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6: 33)

“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”  (Matthew 18:19-20)

“If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” (Jeremiah 33:3)

How to do this? Anyone who believes that Jesus Christ is God, Lord, Savior of human kind and coming King is invited to participate.

What to do? Form a group and send the postal codes representing the homes/churches/places of worship of those participants to robincox908@gmail.com so this data can be captured on a map of New Zealand until New Zealand is covered in prayer. Share this link with all your Christian friends and ask them to form a small prayer group today.

“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” (Mother Teresa)

A prayer for personal and community renewal:

Peace Prayer of Saint Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
